Vivek Singh Chauhan

Sen. Vivek Singh Chauhan is a student senator representing the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) Division of Social Sciences at Columbia University, where he represents the interests of more than 1,000 students. He is currently pursuing an M.A. in Economics at Columbia University, building on his academic background in economics and his B.Sc. in Economics with First Class Honours from the University of Birmingham. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Vivek served as a student representative and Student Ambassador, gaining experience in student representation and engagement. These roles shaped his commitment to listening to students, understanding their concerns, and ensuring that their perspectives are heard in university decision-making.

As a member of the University Senate, Vivek is particularly interested in strengthening graduate student representation, improving the academic experience and access to university resources, and addressing the concerns of international students. He believes that effective representation begins with open communication, careful listening, and an honest understanding of the challenges students face. Through his role as senator, Vivek aims to serve as an accessible point of contact for students in the Division of Social Sciences, bring their concerns to the appropriate university forums, and work constructively with fellow senators, faculty, and administrators to advance practical solutions that support the graduate student community.
