A Message from the Executive Committee Regarding Proposed Term Limits
Following the release of the Senate Review Committee Report and its recommendation to "establish 12-year term limits for Senators, aligned with those for Trustees," and recognizing “the importance of balancing the value of institutional memory with the importance of democratic turnover” regarding University Senate Committee leadership, the Executive Committee has proposed an amendment (Section 3.10.c.-d.) to University Senate By-Laws.
The amendment would:
- Institute 12-year term limits for University Senators, and
- Limit the holding of a committee chair assignment to three consecutive terms.
The Executive Committee seeks comments on this proposed amendment. The comment period is now open and will remain open until May 18, 2026. You can submit your comments here.
The proposed amendment is available here. The By-laws of the Board of Trustees are available here (see Section 2.03 (a) and (b).
