RESOLUTION TO
ESTABLISH AN M.A. PROGRAM IN FILM STUDIES IN THE
WHEREAS, the Education Committee of the University Senate has favorably reviewed the proposal from the School of the Arts to establish a program leading to an M.A. in Film Studies, and
WHEREAS, the committee is satisfied that the proposal has
the approval of the executive committee of the
WHEREAS, there is a unique opportunity to deepen students’ knowledge of and familiarity with contemporary issues in film theory and history in an atmosphere largely defined by the presence of student filmmakers pursuing M.F.A. degrees, and
WHEREAS, the proposed program will help meet this need, and
WHEREAS, the proposed program will not draw away from finite resources, in terms of classes, faculty mentoring, university space, and financial aid, that are in the service of M.F.A. in Film Production students,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that an M.A. in Film Studies be established with the proviso that the committee will review the program in five years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Senate forward this resolution to the Trustees for appropriate action.
