RESOLUTION TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION MEDICINE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE (P&S)
WHEREAS, the Education Committee has favorably reviewed a proposal from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons to change the name of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine to the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has not so far taken advantage of the full range of opportunities to collaborate with basic and clinical scientists at CUMC, and
WHEREAS, the new name will enable the department to recruit outstanding research faculty and improve its national reputation, and
WHEREAS, it will give the department an opportunity to be a leader to other academic departments within the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and
WHEREAS, the department wishes to move forward in the field of stem cell research, and
WHEREAS, the department has the support of the colleagues needed to move forward with this research mission and of the department’s acting chairman,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine shall henceforth be known as the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate respectfully request the Trustees to amend the Statutes accordingly.
