RESOLUTION
TO ESTABLISH
THE
HERBERT AND FLORENCE IRVING INSTITUTE
FOR
CLINICAL AND TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH
WHEREAS the
Department of Biostatistics in the Mailman School of Public Health has offered
a proposal to replace the Irving Center for Clinical and Transformational
Research with an Institute, and
WHEREAS a
Columbia Institute, designed to promote research and teaching in fields of
interest to more than one department, is precisely suited to the NIH emphasis in
its Clinical and Translational Research Awards on the principle of
multisciplinarity, and
WHEREAS the
proposed Institute would enable the University to provide a home for senior
biomedical research faculty to lead efforts to re-engineer the culture of
research, and for junior investigators and trainees, with opportunities for
training, career development, and research support, and
WHEREAS the
proposal has the approval of the Faculty and Dean of the
WHEREAS the
Education Committee of the University Senate has favorably reviewed the
proposal;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Herbert and Florence Irving Institute for Clinical and
Translational Research be established, approved by the Senate and authorized by
the president, and that the Senate forward this
resolution to the Trustees for appropriate action.
