Proposed: April 27, 2001
Adopted: April 27, 2001
RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH A PUBLIC POLICY STUDIES CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
WHEREAS problems and arenas in the field of
public policy increasingly overlap and intersect, and
WHEREAS the field of public policy to an
increasing extent impinges on disciplines--the natural sciences, for
example--that do not traditionally focus directly on it, and
WHEREAS there are benefits to be derived from
multidisciplinary perspectives and the insights born of historical and
comparative examination of policy issues, and
WHEREAS the Public Policy Studies Certificate
will allow doctoral students seeking to learn more about public policy to gain
sophisticated exposure to the field without taking an additional degree, and
WHEREAS through its highlighting of the
University’s impressive range and depth in policy studies the Certificate both
enhances the competitive appeal of Columbia’s doctoral programs to prospective
applicants and strengthens its doctoral graduates on the job market;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Public Policy Studies Certificate
be established at the School of International and Public Affairs.
