RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH SIX NEW DEPARTMENTS
IN THE JOSEPH L. MAILMAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH
WHEREAS the Education Committee has favorably reviewed a proposal from the Joseph L. Mailman School of Public Health to establish the Departments of Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, Population and Family Health, and Sociomedical Sciences, and
WHEREAS the Committee is satisfied that the proposal has been approved by the Steering Committee and the Policy Advisory Committee of the Joseph L. Mailman School of Public Health, as well as by the Vice President of Health Sciences and the Provost, and
WHEREAS the proposed departments have been successfully functioning as autonomous divisions for some time, and
WHEREAS precedent for a departmental structure exists among peer institutions, Columbia University being the only university among the top six without it;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the new Departments of Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, Population and Family Health, and Sociomedical Sciences be established at the Joseph L. Mailman School of Public Health.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate forward this resolution to the Trustees for appropriate action.
